What is Whole Body Cryotherapy?

Whole Body Cryotherapy is the body's exposure to extremely cold temperatures by using gasiform nitrogen. It can decrease the client's skin surface temperature to 30-50 degrees fahrenheit for up to 3 minutes, while not affecting the client's core temperature. The body's response is vasoconstriction, and all the blood gets pushed towards key body organs. This results in the blood acquiring more oxygen, and becomes nutritionally dense. Once the client is no longer in the cold, the body reacts, and vasodilates as it warms up. This is when the blood vessels expand larger than normal, and the body is supplied now with superoxygenated and nutritionally dense blood.  During the session, the body also releases adrenaline, endorphines, and helps aid the increase in production in melatonin, and collagen.

How does it help treat injuries?

One of the main reasons for injury is a reduced blood flow to an affected, or injured area, and when in pain, nerves send messages to the brain to tell you that you are in pain. During the session, in the extreme low temperatures, the cold slows down nerve impulses, and pain can be minimized. Injuries also are accompanied by swelling. It is your body's natural response to send chemicals to make the surrounding blood vessels dilate. Cryotherapy causes your blood vessels to constrict, thus reduce swelling.  The superoxygenated, and nutritionally dense blood gives the injured cells a better chance to regenerate, thus healing is accelerated.

How does it help your skin?

During your session in the cryotherapy chamber, your skin's surface temperature will potentially drop to 30-40 degrees Fahrenheit, and your body's response is to repair the outer layer of skin. This happens  because your body has been "tricked" into thinking that the skin has been "damaged", thus resulting in collagen production, and making your skin look more firm, and rejuvenated. It also reduces the appearance of pores, and skin blemishes. It diminishes the production of sebum, which controls current and future breakouts. It decreases inflammation, and help dermatitis and psoriasis.
